Car product placement in Hollywood movies is nothing new. Watch the latest Marvel superhero film, and you will almost certainly see an Audi appear on-screen at some point. In Avengers: Endgame, the electric Audi e-tron GT made its big-screen debut. Not to be outdone, the Porsche Taycan will also make its cinematic debut soon – but not in the type of film you would expect.

Ahead of its world debut in September, Porsche has announced that its first fully electric car will appear in the upcoming animated Playmobil movie based on the Playmobil toy line. Specifically, a secret agent character called Rex Dasher will drive a white Mission E Concept, which previews the production Taycan.

This is the first film project between Porsche and Playmobil, but the two companies have been jointly developing playsets since 2014. "Porsche was Playmobil's first licensed product. Since then we have brought out a carefully designed new set every year, each of which has been enthusiastically received by children, teenagers and their parents," said Kjell Gruner, Head of Marketing at Porsche. "This successful cooperation will now be crowned by a movie."

Playmobil: The Movie centers around a girl called Marla who has to bring home her younger brother Charlie after he disappears into an animated Playmobil universe. During her journey, she encounters different companions including a food truck owner, a robot, a fairy, and secret agent Rex Dasher, who drives the Porsche Mission E electric sports car during some high-speed action scenes. In the real world, the range-topping Taycan will have a dual electric motor setup that produces a combined output of over 592 horsepower, enabling the electric sports car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds.

This isn't the first time a licensed vehicle has appeared in a family-friendly animated film, as the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado appeared in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part last year. Directed by Lino DiSalvo, Playmobil: The Movie will be released in US theaters on August 30.
