This subject came up just a few weeks ago, but at the time it was nothing more than a rumor. Today, however, a much more credible report has come in claiming that Porsche is all but ready to announce the latest expansion of its SUV lineup: a five-door Cayenne Coupe. According to Autocar, the German automaker is already in the advanced design stage for the new five-door liftback. Basically, it will serve as a sportier alternative to the standard Cayenne.

At the same time it'll give Porsche a BMW X6 fighter. However, don't expect this new model to arrive any time before 2018. It will supposedly be built on a new version of the VW Group's MLB platform. The third-generation Cayenne, due in 2017, will also ride on this platform. Porsche sources also claim the Cayenne coupe's styling "will be an evolution of that seen on today's second-generation Cayenne." However, it'll still have an edgier look with tauter surfacing and some styling inspired by the 918 Spyder. As such, it'll have a sleeker roofline. It'll also be priced roughly 15 to 20 percent higher than the standard Cayenne, and will include variants such as the GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, and diesel.
