Porsche may have previewed the Macan Electric in a recent easter egg.
Porsche has big plans for the best-selling Macan. For the first time in its model history, the next-generation model will be available as a fully electric SUV. Camouflaged prototypes of the new electric Porsche Macan have already been spied testing, but Porsche may have provided us with an early preview.
During its 'Porsche Unseen' series showcasing previously unseen concept cars from the past 15 years, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a clay model hiding in plain sight in the background that appeared to be a mock-up of the electric Macan. Using this as a foundation, digital artist Nikita Chuiko was able to create a design render showing what the new Macan Electric will look like when it enters production.
While the clay model may not be representative of the final design, we believe there's a good chance the Macan Electric will look almost exactly like this judging from recent prototype model sightings.
At the front, the rendered Macan Electric features narrow headlights resembling the design seen on the Porsche Taycan and smaller air intakes than the combustion-powered model. This matches the headlights of a prototype we spied last month. The sloping roofline also resembles the Porsche Cayenne Coupe crossover that debuted last year, and the door design mimics the Taycan's. The rear of the Macan Electric has also been rendered, but the design is pure speculation as the electric SUV's rear end was not visible on the clay model and prototypes.
However, judging from Porsche's current styling direction, we can expect the Macan Electric to incorporate a full-width light bar as seen on the Taycan and 992-generation 911 Carrera and 911 Turbo.
The Porsche Macan Electric is being developed on the same Premium Platform Electric platform that will underpin the Audi e-tron GT. Technical details are still being kept under wraps, but rumors suggest the range-topping Macan Electric Turbo will utilize a dual-motor setup producing around 700 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque. Porsche will unleash the first-ever electric Macan in 2022 but will continue to sell the combustion-powered version alongside it.
