The outlandish redesign gives the versatile EV a one-of-a-kind presence.
Whenever an esteemed designer pairs up with a car manufacturer, the results are always special and impressive. One such example is the BMW M4 Competition that was handed a reworking by Kith's Ronnie Feig. The late Virgil Abloh certainly took things to the extreme with his Off-White Mercedes-Benz G-Class and one-off Project Maybach.
The next to join this group of exclusive manufacturer-approved designers is the esteemed Sean Wotherspoon who has added his personal touch to the Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. For this project, he traveled to the company's headquarters in Stuttgart where he got to work with the designers and engineers on this unique collaboration.
From what we can tell, this project is reminiscent of the iconic and limited 1996 Volkswagen Golf Harlequin but with a unique Porsche touch. Wotherspoon occupied Porsche's painting facilities to apply shades of Nash Blue, Loretta Purple, Ashley Green, and Sean Peach across the electric car's versatile wagon body style.
He explains that each of these colors was created to contrast and highlight one another at the same time. Using these shades, he also aims to extract the natural curves of the design that would otherwise be hidden with more neutral colors. Wotherspoon adds that to put this project together, the entire car had to be taken apart and each panel painted individually.
By now some of you might have noticed a circle applied to the front and rear doors. Wotherspoon explains that this design cue refers to the brand's Le Mans aspirations which date back to the 1950s. It also represents the journey of putting this car together with the help of the Porsche production team.
If you're a fan of this collaboration, you'll be glad to learn that this isn't where Wotherspoon's work with Porsche comes to an end as he confirms that a second model is on the way. Unfortunately, we don't have any clues as to what it may be but we'll be keeping a close eye on any updates.
