In the most recent episode of the new Top Gear series, Chris Harris took the Porsche Taycan for a spin around the Top Gear test track and even managed to get the four-wheel-drive electric sports car sideways. Harris was very impressed with the Taycan's performance and driving dynamics, declaring it as "the best-engineered and best-handling electric car ever made." Now, former talk show host Jay Leno has delivered his verdict on the Porsche Taycan in the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage.

Leno gets behind the wheel of a pre-production Porsche Taycan Turbo S for the first time and takes it for a drive around the streets of LA.

Joining him for the ride is Porsche's product spokesperson Calvin Kim, who provides some interesting insights into Porsche's first fully electric car. For example, Kim explains how Porsche decided to add a two-speed transmission because it provides the instantaneous acceleration that EVs are renowned for in low gear while delivering high efficiency at faster speeds in high gear.

Leno also praises how comfortable the Taycan is to drive on the road thanks to the car's three-chamber air suspension, as well as the throttle and steering response. Leno and Kim also discuss topics such as how Porsche created the sound the Taycan makes and why Porsche called it a Turbo when it doesn't have a turbocharger. Kim also reveals that while the Porsche Taycan will be sold globally, it will launch in North America first.

Since Leno is driving on city streets, we sadly don't get to see the Taycan get pushed to its limit. In the range-topping Taycan Turbo S, a pair of electric motors combine to produce up to 750 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Taycan Turbo S to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 161 mph.

Jay Leno was also recently spotted behind the wheel of a Tesla Cybertruck, so we can look forward to seeing Tesla's electric truck featuring in a future episode of Jay Leno's Garage.
