Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo Arrives In Five Flavors

Reveal / 2 Comments

The electric wagon just got sexier.

To everyone who thought that the idea of Porsche introducing an electric vehicle to the market was a bad one, the sales figures have shown that the people in Stuttgart know exactly what their customers want. The Taycan has been an immense success, but Porsche wants more. The automaker offers sedan and Cross Turismo variants, the latter of which is a mildly lifted wagon with off-road elements, but these have now been superseded by the Sport Turismo, a sexy wagon without any plastic garnishings or unsightly off-road additions.

We first saw the Taycan Sport Turismo when Porsche revealed the Taycan GTS in November last year and now the rest of the range has been revealed too. Alas, the "Taycan Sport Turismo will continue to be offered solely as a GTS in the United States," according to a Porsche spokesperson.

In total, five trims are being offered across the pond. The entry-level Taycan Sport Turismo produces 321 horsepower, but a Performance Battery Plus option exists for those who want more, boosting power to 375 hp. The 4S model has a base output of 429 hp but also has the option of an upgraded battery. Here, it increases output to 482 hp. This model offers the most range in the lineup, with a WLTP rating of 309 miles. The range-topper of the so-called regular models is the aforementioned GTS, producing 509 hp as standard, with no battery upgrade available.

The Taycan Turbo Sport Turismo and its Turbo S sibling once again offer 616 hp, but with the overboost function engaged, this rises to 670 hp in the regular model and 750 hp in the S. A 0-62 mph sprint time of 2.8 seconds is possible here, as is a top speed of 161 mph.

When you've depleted all that energy, charging the Taycan Sport Turismo from 5-80% will take just 22 minutes 30 seconds. If you're in a rush, five minutes of charging adds an extra 62 miles of range. While we're on the subject of practical matters, the Sport Turismo's greatest attribute is its increased storage capacity. Along with a larger opening, the ST also has more space inside the trunk area.

While the Taycan sedan offers up to 14.3 cubic feet of volume, a Sport Turismo with Sound Package Plus offers up to 15.7 cubes. If you opt for the Bose Surround Sound System, this decreases slightly to 14.3 cubic feet. Fold the seats in a 60:40 split, and the smaller sound system affords you as much as 42.8 cubes while the Bose system provides 41.3 cu. ft. All models also boast a frunk measuring three cu. ft.

Thanks to new updates introduced to the regular range last year, the Taycan Sport Turismo arrives with remote parking and Android Auto. You also get more headroom in the back of this model than in the sedan (up to 45 millimeters more) while drivers gain an extra 9 mm. Speaking of the area above your head, the Taycan offers a panoramic roof with Sunshine Control. Divided into nine sections that can be individually controlled, this section of glass can switch from transparent (Clear mode) to opaque (Matt) in full or in part. Semi or Bold can also be selected, offering predefined patterns with narrow or wide segments. There's even a dynamic Roller Blind setting that activates a switching sequence in the individual sections when you slide your finger over an image of the roof in the infotainment display.

As for pricing, the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo GTS starts at $133,300 before options or destination.
