As part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations this year, Porsche has announced that it will unveil a new sports car on June 8. Why June 8? Because on that date in 1948, the first-ever Porsche 356 roadster received its general operating permit, realizing founder Ferry Porsche's dream of creating his own sports car.

"In the beginning, I looked around and could not find quite the car I dreamed of, so I decided to build it myself," Ferry famously said.

75 years later, the ideal way to celebrate Porsche's history is with something born of the same desire to create something better than what else is currently available.

Sadly, details on what to expect are scant: "The sports car manufacturer will offer a look forward to its vision of the sports car of the future," reads the press release. What might this be?

The words "vision" and "future" suggest that Porsche could be readying a concept car; Porsche has applied the vision name to concepts in the past, like its recent Vision 357 Concept. Speaking of the future suggests that the car will be something that would adhere to future emissions regulations, indicating something electrified if not all-electric. Then again, the Vision 357 runs on synthetic fuel, of which Porsche is a massive supporter.

If electrification is in the cards, two future production cars fit the bill. Porsche is planning to make the 718 Cayman and its Boxster sibling all-electric, and the 911 is set to be hybridized. Spy shots of both cars have been captured over the past couple of years, however, and concepts with the vision name are not usually production-ready or even close.

That said, it could just be a coincidence that the word 'vision' was chosen for this line.

Another possibility is that we'll get an early look at a 918 Spyder successor or at least a concept that gives us an idea of what to expect. The automaker feels that battery technology for a new hypercar is several years away, but revealing a concept a few years before the idea is likely to be production-ready is not uncommon.

What we do know for sure is that the car will be unveiled as part of a live stream that will be broadcast in both German and English. The one-hour event is titled "75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars" and will explore five distinct themes: Heritage, Zeitgeist, Performance, Pioneering Spirit, and Dreams. We suspect that the six vehicles pictured above draped in car covers will be unveiled one by one as the various themes are explored, and the concept will likely only be revealed as part of the last theme.

The event kicks off at 15:40 ET on June 8, and the brand's 75th-anniversary exhibition at the Porsche Museum opens the following day.
