Porsche Wants To Battle the BMW 5 Series

Sedan

A new sport sedan smaller than the Panamera? Oh yes, please.

The Panamera has been a phenomenal success, despite many initial doubts as to whether Porsche could pull off a tried and true four door. But the naysayers have long been silenced, and Porsche is laughing all the way to the bank. Now the German brand is setting its sights on an even more competitive premium sedan segment and one model in particular: the BMW 5 Series.

According to Porsche exec Matthias Muller, the Stuttgart carmaker wants to expand its model lineup even further after reaching its sales goals. The newly launched Macan SUV is just one example of Porsche’s confidence, and a 5 Series fighter would also make sense. Other competitors in its field include the Mercedes E-Class, Jaguar XF and even the new Maserati Ghibli. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a potential baby Panamera. However, now that Porsche is fully integrated into the VW Group, that smaller Porsche sedan is looking like a genuine possibility.
