Porsche is one of many manufacturers who are diving deep into the world of digital technologies for the enjoyment of its customers. So far, it has revealed a nifty creation tool that lets users record their favorite stretch of road and convert it into a digital playground that can be enjoyed while piloting a virtual Porsche Cayman GT4 RS.

For the more socially minded owners, Porsche has also opened its Track Precision app for street use. You can't access the lap timing function, but the device will record iconic driving moments by accessing the car's telemetry systems. These are both impressive and enjoyable functions, but the Zuffenhausen-based automaker's latest announcement makes them look relatively archaic.

The German company has now announced a new Holoride Cosmic Chase featuring the Porsche Cayenne and powered by virtual reality. This will be a virtual experience that fans can engage with at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles. It is the next phase of its virtual reality journey that comes as a strong follow-up to its back seat driving experience venture from 2019.

The setup of the experience requires you to be seated in the back of the Cayenne with the Holorider goggles attached. Using this, you'll be taken on a space adventure while an experienced driver pilots the performance SUV through a technical circuit to mimic the feeling of a spaceship traveling through the cosmic highway. While on this journey, you'll be required to use the joystick to shoot virtual laser beams at vicious alien bugs.

Porsche claims that there will be no latency between the Holorider hardware and the Cayenne's accelerating, braking, and steering. This will significantly reduce any possibility of suffering from motion sickness.

The Cosmic Chase experience is a unique game developed in partnership with Schell Games based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This firm has become an authority in the world of virtual reality gaming, having developed several titles for personal and commercial use since it began operations in 2002.

Although the partnership began just over three years ago, this is Holoride's first commercial expedition which it states is a notable move towards making its technology accessible to a larger market.
