The forthcoming Porsche Boxster EV has been spotted in Scandinavia undergoing winter testing, and while it's still concealed by camouflage, it's clear the German roadster is taking shape.

In the video (below), we hear the Boxster's electric motor in action. At low speeds, most EVs emit a noise of some kind to let pedestrians know there's a car nearby. The upcoming Porsche has a rather distinctive tone and sounds very futuristic, much like we'd imagine a UFO would sound.

The short clip also allows us to see the rear-facing charging port again. Look closely, and you'll notice the subtle flap. We're not sure why Porsche has elected to position the port here, but we previously surmised that it might have to do with weight distribution.

Regarding style, the Boxster EV hasn't deviated from the formula. Compared to older Boxster models, the family resemblance is unmistakable, but the latest iteration has borrowed some cues from the Taycan electric sedan. The headlights are sleek and modern and resemble the units we've seen on the Macan EV, an electric SUV that will reportedly have up to 603 horsepower.

At the rear, the Taycan's influence is evident. The slim taillights resemble the items on the brand's first EV, and the voluptuous bumper adds plenty of character. Interestingly, the Taycan is due for a facelift and will probably gain design touches to bring it more in line with the aforementioned Porsche EVs.

The automaker hasn't divulged any details, but we know a few things about the drop-top.

Zuffenhausen's finest have previously said the Boxster and Cayman EV will utilize a unique battery layout known as e-core. Porsche has put much effort into achieving the ideal weight distribution, aiming for a mid-engined feel. The current iteration of Porsche's small sports car is great fun to drive, and the automaker will undoubtedly have pulled out all the stops to improve that experience.

The carmaker will also debut a bespoke charging network when the new Boxster EV hits the scene. Porsche wants to elevate the mundane task of charging and provide consumers with a premium experience. First-class facilities will be offered, and waiting owners can catch up on work and get coffee while their vehicles top up their batteries.

Expect the EV to arrive in 2025.
