The new must-have hatchback is about to flood North American roads.
Volkswagen has announced pricing for the Mk VII Golf range – so prepare to have our North American roads awash with the popular hatchback. The special edition Golf Launch Edition will start proceedings, starting from $17,995 (plus $820 destination). The new GTI will follow in June, with the standard Golf and Golf TDI arriving in August. Bigger, wider, and lighter than its predecessor, the new Golf’s base engine is a 1.8-liter turbo-four mated to a five speed, or a six-speed automatic for an additional $1,100.
That serves up 170 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque, while the 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinder diesel comes with 150 hp and 236 lb-ft. In total, the TSI engine is offered in five specs, the TDI in three. The Launch Edition is a three-door five-speed, above that is the $19,815 Golf S, which for $21,895 comes with a sunroof and five doors, while the Golf SE five-door is priced at $25,315 and comes with an automatic as standard. The top-of-the-range Golf SEL five-door will set you back $27,815, while a limited-run Golf Sport based on the TSI SE five-door is priced at $27,750 and comes with a six-speed auto, bi-xenon headlights, chrome exhaust tips, and body kit.
