And yes, that's a very good thing.
One of the stars of Geneva last March was not a production car, but a concept that appeared to be nearly 90 percent production ready. The Maserati Alfieri is the Italian response to the Jaguar F-Type coupe. No, it's not a replacement for the Gran Turismo, but the Alfieri is still very much a pure GT and sports car. Maserati has already green lit production, set to begin in 2016, and now comes word that the road going version will look nearly identical to that sexy concept.
Power will exclusively come from V6 turbo engines, with a minimum of 350 horsepower for the base rear-wheel-drive trim. All-wheel-drive models, however, will be available with either 450 or 520 horsepower. Expect a drop top version to arrive around 2017. Size wise, the Alfieri will be a 2+2 and will offer roughly the same amount of interior and cargo space as an F-Type and Porsche 911. In other words, it won't be a large car. It won't be a difficult car to drive at all, and owners will be treated to Maserati's typical fine touches throughout the cabin. We'll just have to wait a couple more years for the inevitable F-Type-911-Alfieri showdown. It'll definitely be a good show.
