Even the classic Hofmeister kink features in the sneaker's design.
The legacy of BMW M Motorsport is being celebrated by Puma, which has launched an all-new sneaker design.
Known as the BMW LGND, the sneaker is inspired by the BMW M4 coupe and Puma's famous Speedcat line. It's yet another extension of an absolute bumper 50th anniversary year for BMW M that has already included reveals of the XM, M2, 3.0 CSL, and M4 CSL.
The BMW LGND footwear comes with styling cues that will be visible to fans of the Bavarian brand, including the increasingly controversial kidney grille and the Hofmeister kink in the C-pillar. Puma has worked with BMW before by designing the racing suit that matched the 3.0 CSL Hommage R concept revealed in 2015.
That concept, of course, has since morphed into the new 3.0 CSL.
The BMW LGND shoes feature chrome accents inspired by trim pieces on the M4, while adaptive reflective materials were implemented as a visual link to the M4's headlight system. The T-Toe shape draws inspiration from the M4's hood design, and as mentioned, the distinctive Hofmeister kink also makes an appearance on the sneaker.
The C-pillar bend has been used on BMW models since 1961 when the Neue Klasse models arrived on the scene. Today, the styling feature is still clearly visible on models like the 3 Series or 5 Series, although its shape has changed on coupes like the M4.
Of course, it wouldn't be a BMW M product without the M tricolor stripes, and there is a special livery version of the BMW LGND sneakers incorporating these stripes in their design.
Regarding pricing, the new BMW M Motorsport LGND Livery shoes will cost you 160 euros, or just under $170 at current rates. Puma also sells an assortment of BMW M Motorsport apparel, such as a lightweight jacket and sporty track pants if you want to be covered from head to toe in BMW M apparel.
Automotive-inspired sneakers are quite a hit among diehard fans, with Puma previously introducing a pair of kicks inspired by the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. For designers, inspiration can work both ways, though, with a pair of Levis sneakers actually leading to the high-end Navy Pier and Desert Brown interior option for the Ford Maverick.
Besides being available to order online, Puma promises that the BMW LGND sneakers will also be coming to selected stores.
