Meet the Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T.
The Ram 1500 has been offered in quite a few special editions. There's been the Laramie Southwest Edition, the Limited 10th Anniversary Edition, and of course, you get the insane TRX which is available in a Launch Edition. But if the TRX is too powerful and the regular 1500 models are too plain, Ram has created the niche-fillers you've been after. For the 2022 model year, Ram has just announced G/T versions of both the 1500 Laramie and 1500 Rebel, with each offering "customized performance features" from the factory. Check out the images below to see the special models in all their glory.
Ram's Brand CEO Mike Koval Jr. announced the new models: "Ram has a strong history of performance trucks and the Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T models add to that while expanding the light-duty lineup with the segment's best combination of performance, capability, luxury, and technology."
Both models get a sports performance hood and G/T decals along with a "cold-end exhaust" and cold-air intake from Mopar, along with app functionality that allows drivers to see their 0-60 mph times, g-force, and engine performance. This data can also be downloaded to a USB drive for later analysis. However, Ram does not list any performance gains from the G/T treatment.
Nevertheless, you get paddle shifters (a first for non-TRX models), a console-mounted "performance shifter", and metal pedals. Other highlights include bucket seats with the G/T logo and all-weather Mopar floor mats. Both the Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T are offered in Crew Cab configuration with the 5.7-liter V8 engine with eTorque mild-hybrid assistance and each will go on sale in the third quarter of the year.
The Laramie G/T (in red) starts at $55,480 while the Rebel G/T (pictured in black) costs $55,375. We love the styling and think these look like great mixes of performance and comfort, but we would have liked just a little more power. Nevertheless, we have no doubt that these will sell in droves.
