It was a chance it was willing to take and the gamble is apparently paying off quite nicely. Chrysler's truck division, Ram, is keeping its competitive edge strong in the never ending full-size truck war against Ford and GM with its Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Powered by a new 3.0-liter V6 diesel, truck buyers have responded in kind. We already knew sales were going well from a report earlier this year, but now Automotive News claims that Chrysler will increase annual production of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in order to keep pace with heavy demand.

Currently, the oil burning variant of the popular pickup accounts for 10 percent of total Ram 1500 production. That number will soon be doubled to 20 percent. What's more, Chrysler says that nearly 60 percent of all Ram 1500 EcoDiesel deliveries have been conquest sales from competitors' pickup brands.
