Ram Recalls 170,000 Trucks For A Problem Owners Can Easily Fix At Home

The entire range from 2500 to 5500 models is affected.

Ram seems to be working on an electric truck, and if Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares is to be believed, this new offering will be worth the wait, even if it only arrives in 2024, years after the brand's biggest rivals like Ford have already begun taking slices of the electric pickup pie. In the meantime, the traditional Ram 1500 soldiers on, occasional fuel pump flaws and all. A new fault has now been discovered with the automaker's larger trucks, prompting Ram to issue a recall that affects 171,789 vehicles, made up of both pickups and chassis cabs. So what's the issue?

Specifically affecting 2019 and 2020 model year Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models, the recall pertains to windshield wiper arms that could loosen, thereby reducing their efficacy when the water is pouring from the sky. Fortunately, the recall is exceptionally simple to fix, requiring nothing more than for Ram to tighten the nuts securing these arms in place. Of course, this is something that you could easily do at home, but it's always worth remembering that you want to give the next owner of your truck peace of mind and evidence of sending your truck in for any and all recalls that it may be subjected to over its time in your possession.

Obviously, Ram won't charge you anything to perform the basic fix since it was a factory defect, and owners of affected vehicles can expect to receive recall notices around March 1. Alternatively, you can call your local dealer to schedule a fix at your convenience. If that's your objective, reference recall number Z08 when calling Ram's customer service department and consultants will help you out quickly. It's been some time since we've seen a recall as minor as this, but we're also slightly concerned that something as basic as this hasn't been properly evaluated before delivery. Then again, things could always be worse.
