Ram Should Worry About Chevy Silverado 1500 Updates

Trucks / 7 Comments

The pressure is on.

The current generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 full-size pickup trucks are significant improvements over their immediate predecessors in every category. The quest to inch closer to Ford F-150 sales numbers was in full swing, but GM suddenly faced an unexpected arrival: the also completely redesigned 2020 Ram 1500. Not only did the new Ram deliver on styling and overall packaging, but its interior is vastly better than those of the Silverado and Sierra corporate cousins. Even the high-end Sierra 1500 Denali has a problem here.

It turns out higher-quality interiors were initially planned, but GM was rushed to get both trucks to market as quickly as possible. Time simply ran out and the best possible interiors were sacrificed. Not long ago, we learned GM was planning a significant interior refresh for those trucks in 2021.

However, GM Authority is now claiming that mid-life update won't happen until 2022. This new higher-quality interior will be joined by a general refresh which will reportedly involve a few minor exterior updates. However, the facelift's main focus will be the interiors. The mid- and high-end trim levels for each truck will receive a majority of the enhancements. These same upgrades will also be applied to the Silverado HD and Sierra HD the following year. 2023 is also when the off-road-focused Silverado ZRX is slated to arrive.

Previous reports indicate the trucks' updated interiors will feature a larger infotainment screen, higher quality materials, and an overall fit and finish improvement.

The Ram 1500 is definitely the main benchmark, but Ford is also planning to launch a redesigned F-150 at right around the time the new GM trucks are due. The new F-150's interior will undoubtedly be taken to the next level in refinement.

But if you already want a preview for GM's new truck interiors, look no further than the all-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Sources claim both vehicles' cabins are clear indicators as to what we can expect.
