Ram Taunts Ford Before New F-150 Raptor Reveal

Trucks / Comments

Ram doesn't seem to be afraid of the upcoming Raptor.

To say that Ram is confident that the latest 1500 TRX stands alone as the most hardcore truck in the business is an understatement, given the TRX's numbers. This demented truck has a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 702 horsepower, enabling it to reach 60 mph in under four seconds. It already left the outgoing Ford F-150 Raptor for dead in a drag race. Now, just before the imminent launch of the all-new Raptor, Ram has taken a cheeky dig at Ford on social media. Ford posted a teaser video of the Raptor and Ram retorted with a demand in all caps that reads: "POP THE HOOD".

Obviously, Ram is pretty confident that even the new Raptor won't be able to match the TRX's supercharged powerplant. Considering that the Raptor will use an EcoBoost V6 and that a more powerful V8 remains unconfirmed, Ram may just retain its edge with the TRX. Of course, we'll have the answers to all of these questions soon as the new F-150 Raptor is set for its debut tomorrow. The EcoBoost V6 is anticipated to produce around 500 hp, but that still falls over 200 hp short of the Ram's output. What is guaranteed is that the new Raptor will be an aggressively styled, superbly capable off-roader.

The outgoing Raptor was already a great off-road truck with over 11 inches of ground clearance and a 0-60 mph time of comfortably under six seconds. It could also tow up to 8,000 pounds, nearly matching the 8,100-pound towing capacity of the far more powerful 1500 TRX. There's no question that the TRX is a fantastic-looking machine, though, with its 35-inch all-terrain tires, a functional hood scoop, and a broadened body. We already know that the Raptor will have a bespoke grille with prominent FORD lettering, as did the outgoing model. Later this week, we'll find out whether Ram has to eat some humble pie or not.
