The Toyota Hilux, Ford F-150 and Land Rover Defender have historically been known as some of the toughest cars on the planet. Land Rover's Range Rover never really had that reputation. It was a little plush, a little finicky, more for football players and rappers than outdoorsman. But now that we've seen a Rangie in this sort of action, we might have to reevaluate things.
A Range Rover was stolen in London this week, but before it got out of the neighborhood it demolished a half dozen cars, almost hit a few people, and burned a ton of rubber. We're hoping these thieves are parting out this vehicle, as the body is pretty much dead.
We have two videos of this incident from different angles. One guy gets a close up TikTok style piece of the action and the other seems to be a doorbell camera. The comments explain that the first SUV was stolen and we can see in the second video that the driver peels out of parking space and shoves a BMW, wedging it sideways in the street.
Undeterred, the thief backs up and hits another parked car, before going forward again at ramming speed. A little kid runs across the street right before the second impact. A recently cancelled Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class also get caught up in the carnage.
The Range Rover finally breaks free and takes off, only to be followed by another Range Rover that's giving chase. We're not sure if it's the same owner. It looks like the pedestrians get the license plate, though that probably won't help them find the thief.
Other comments range from "the insurance companies are going to get a workout" to the obvious, "that'll buff right out." There's also mention of "panel beaters," which is a hilarious and descriptive name for what we call a bump or collision shop.
Those bastards are tough, the Range looked like it was going full speed after five or six serious crashes, though we do see some liquid on the street. Let's hope it was this thief's radiator, and that he conked out a few blocks later.
