The upcoming generation of the Volkswagen Amarok will essentially be the long-lost German twin of the new Ford Ranger as the two will be sharing the same platform. This decision was made as the two automotive giants announced a strategic partnership that also includes sharing parts of the European Volkswagen Caddy and Ford Tourneo.

Our first view of the Volkswagen Amarok was provided to us with a very dynamic-looking sketch detailing a roughed front design with bold recovery points and a chunky anti-scuff plate. Additional design highlights include a slim LED light bar that runs along a silver finish dividing the grille. A black trim located beneath this and to the sides of the bumpers contrasts the blue paint applied to the muscular panels.

Giving us more of an impression of what the upcoming truck will look like are yet another round of sketches that preview the side and rear design. Based on the sketch style, we can assume that these designs form part of the same portfolio from which the first sketch was derived. Considering these are concept art impressions, the final product may look very different from this.

The first sketch shows us a clean side profile that is broken by a series of dynamic lines found along the wheel arches and doors. A sports bar has been integrated into the rear panels while a sharkfin antenna and slim rocker panels provide modern but rugged cues. The finishing touch is provided by a set of chunky all-terrain tires affixed to a slick set of alloy wheels.

The rear takes things a bit more conservatively by adopting cleaner lines around the LED taillights and tailgate. Speaking of the tailgate, we can't help but notice that it features a line down the center which could suggest vertical hinges, allowing the part to swing open. It also displays bold "Amarok" lettering and a slim brake lamp at the top. The rear bumper fixture adds a rough element with its reflectors and satin chrome trimmings.

While we're sure many locals would love the opportunity to purchase a German truck that benefits from American technology, the chances of the Amarok ever being sold in the USA through ordinary means are highly unlikely as the brand doesn't believe a market introduction would be justifiable.
