The Renault Frendzy by itself is an interesting concept. It is an electric commercial vehicle that takes its inspiration from an unconventionally shaped aircraft. Debuting online last Thursday well ahead of the 64th 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Frendzy is definitely a unique EV in terms of styling and features. While most EV's are silent, the Frendzy truly sounds like a car with some bang. The commercial features include one conventional door and one sliding door.

There is even radio frequency identification sensors perfect for tracking shipments and a 37-inch display/flashing billboard. "Frendzy is the fourth vehicle to illustrate Renault's new design strategy, a series which started with DeZir. Frendzy takes an original and innovative stance on the world of light commercial vehicles - a key part of Renault's activities," said Laurens van den Acker, Senior Vice President of Renault Design. In the cabin, there is a workbench with a 'molten metal' look. Leather latticework seats and wood line everything, and there is a single-piece fixed rear seat.

The car is also meant to be a fairly comfortable ride for the family when not 'at work.' In family mode, the door mirrors swivel to a horizontal position and the interior is orange-lit. In work mode they sit upright and the interior lighting is green. Useful if everyone else knows what those colors signify. Renault's pursuit of the perfect commercial truck continues, but takes a big step forward with the Frendzy. As a concept design, it will be an eventual replacement for the Kangoo and should make its way out in a few years. The Frendzy concept will have its live debut this September at Frankfurt.
