In the US we don't see too many police cars that are made from the same cars that those doing the speeding also love, but things are different in Europe, and apparently they're very different in France. The French Gendarmerie has been looking to retire their aging fleet of Subaru Imprezas, and this led them to the Renault Megane RS. The Gendarmerie bought 70 of the Chassis Cup versions of the RS, since the Cup racers have the best high-speed handling.
The Megane RS is powered by a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower. The RS tops out at 155mph, so there isn't much on the road that will be able to outrun them, although we're sure some will still try. The conversion to police car will be performed for the Gendarmerie by the Renault-approved coach-builder Durisotti. Be sure to check out the pictures if you're planning a trip to France anytime soon, it's important to know what to watch for in the rearview mirror.
