The new generation XC90 will debut Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture.
Volvo hasn't quite generated a ton of publicity at this year's LA Auto Show, but they did however create quite a buzz during the pre-launch to the premier Californian auto event. The Swedish company released four sketches of what their next generation XC90 crossover could look like, destined for release sometime in 2014. The current Volvo XC90 crossover has been cruising the streets since 2002, and these four new, slightly distinct sketches take the vehicle in a modern direction.
Differences in these designs lie mostly in the taillights, c-pillar and size. The two things we do know about the new design, however, is that it will be the first vehicle to debut Volvo's new Scalable Platform Architecture and that it will be equipped with a 4-cylinder engine. We do expect a turbocharger to make its way onto the big crossover, along with direct injection and a possible hybrid system, as the new architecture is designed to handle such an option. The next generation Volvo XC90 Crossover will arrive in 2014.
