After debuting as the Aveo RS at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, the rebranded Sonic RS is expected to be released in late 2012 as a 2013 model year car according to GMInside News. The Sonic RS will be released in both sedan and hatchback versions with some standard Sonic parts and a few nice upgrades. The RS will have a much more aggressive body kit and GMI says even a tweaked suspension for better handling.
Under the hood, things remain the same, as the RS will feature the same 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with 138hp and 148lb-ft of torque. The $14,995 starting price of the base Sonic seems to indicate that the market for the Sonic RS will be as a budget hatch, given there are many more hatch's out there with better performance. Also the RS will be the only B-segment made in the USA, with production scheduled to begin this quarter in Michigan. Photos displayed are of the 2011 Chevrolet Aveo RS.
