Report: 6 Series Gran Tourer to Debut in 2017

Based on the Gran Coupe sedan.

Would this be the Gran Coupe Wagon for the 6 Series or a Shooting Brake version of the 5? We can't really figure out the naming scheme or exactly where it would fit into BMW's ever-expanding family, but according to a French report, we have a couple of years to iron those details out. L'Automobile magazine reports that one year after the 6 Series' 40th anniversary and following the introduction of its fourth generation, a Gran Tourer version is expected to become a reality in 2017.

The 6 Series Gran Tourer will be based on the next-generation Gran Coupe sedan, gaining a steeply-inclined electric tailgate, many glass surfaces and enhanced luxury as well as an ultra-lightweight chassis. In addition to diesel and gasoline powered versions, the report indicates that a hybrid powerplant is also to be expected.
