Likely set for a late 2013 debut, the C7 Corvette may even receive a seven-speed manual gearbox.
After the hype surrounding the Transformers Sting Ray Corvette, rumors about the upcoming C7 were just about everywhere. People were excited about the film car's styling and hoped GM designers would incorporate it into the C7. While that hasn't been confirmed, some other new details are coming to light about the next Plastic Fantastic. The latest - and perhaps the biggest - news is that the C7 will be offered with a seven-speed manual gearbox, a la the new Porsche 911s.
According to a report from Inside Line, it's still unknown whether the additional gear means that Chevrolet can close up the ratios between the first six cogs, or whether the C7 will simply offer an even taller top gear that would give it improved highway mileage. Still no word yet if GM is planning a dual-clutch as well. Engine wise, the C7 will likely have a pushrod V8 and maybe even a small-displacement turbo V6. As of now, we don't know what the standard/optional engine will be, so everything is pure speculation. But what we do know is that the C7 will most likely be unveiled in the fall of 2013 as a 2014 model.
The current C6 comes with a standard 6.2-liter LS3 V8 with 430hp. Opting for the high-end performance models the Z06 and ZR1, will give you 505hp and 638hp respectively.
