Subaru has delayed the arrival of their new WRX and STI for the forseeable future.
Subaru will indeed build their next generation WRX and STI models. The performance cars will be based on the also new 2012 Impreza, however they just won't be coming out anytime soon. The Japanese automaker wants to give their new Impreza a chance to gain a foothold in the U.S. market before they whip out their new models. According to the Gents at Car and Driver, it will be a 'couple of years' before Subaru comes through with the new performance production cars.
Subaru plans on releasing their new turbocharged 300hp-plus STI engine next year, so we are expecting the engine to come in a new car. They may leave them as quick rally-type rides or give them a more mature look, seeing as how the market reacts and from feedback on the Impreza. The last time they went for the 'mature' WRX look in 2008, it failed miserably.
