Determined to appeal to as broad an audience as possible, General Motors is keeping the cost of reserving its forthcoming GMC Hummer EV low enough that just about anyone can justify the price: $100. That's good news for fans who are keeping a close eye on their expenditures, although we suspect it will lead to a bevy of bad-faith reservations from customers who, ultimately, have little real interest in buying the pure-electric truck.

It's also exactly what Tesla charged for reservations of its forthcoming Cybertruck, and that's not by coincidence. GM is clearly doing everything it can to tackle the Palo Alto-based EV manufacturer head-on, although unlike Tesla, GM isn't averse to spending a bit of cash on PR and advertising.

According to Automotive News, a new advertising blitz for the 2022 GMC Hummer will kick off next week with television spots during NBC's "The Voice" and Game 1 of the MLB World Series on Fox. Advertisements will simultaneously reach web-based streaming and social media channels.

What's more, the GMC Hummer will blaze a new trail when it becomes the first production vehicle to debut to a global audience on the streaming platform Twitch, Automotive News reports. Twitch's audience tends to skew younger, so if the goal is getting the Hummer in front of a youthful crowd - the sort that has historically counted among Tesla's most vocal supporters - it's a smart move.

Granted, Twitch isn't the only place the GMC Hummer's debut will be streamed on October 20; at the same time that GM's TV spots air during The Voice and the World Series, a longer-form version will be cast on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and GMC's own website.

"It's a very large scale, multiplatform, multiscreen reveal campaign," says GMC's Vice President of Marketing, Phil Brook. "What we really want to do is set GMC Hummer EV up as an iconic nameplate. To do that, you really need broad awareness, broad appeal, and maximum excitement."

After the Hummer's official reveal on October 20 at 8:00 pm EDT, customers will be able to hop online immediately and reserve their trucks down to the trim level.
