Rivian is ready to take the EV truck market by storm with its R1T Truck and is already struggling to keep up with demand. The sleek-looking truck not only looks the part but videos have shown that it can talk the talk, and walk up sheer cliff faces. Rivian has a fresh outlook on car design and the entire ownership experience around its vehicles. It recently opened up its first retail hub which promises to change the way we buy cars, and it is constantly coming up with quirky features for its cars. Last year we covered Rivian's sliding door patent, and now there's a new one: a tailgate bike rack.

Images of the patent (United States Patent Application: 0210402911) show a straightforward bike rack that fits on the tailgate when it's folded down. The patent is named the "Integrated Tailgate Cargo System For Automotive Vehicle," and its clever design allows R1T Truck drivers to carry a bicycle without having to sacrifice any bed space. The abstract of the patent application describes the bike rack as "a system for securing a bicycle to a dropdown tailgate, and systems for securing cargo to a tailgate of an automotive vehicle." The system features an elongated groove running along the inner panel of the tailgate, a securing member with sliding adjustment, and an attachment mechanism.

It all seems pretty straight forward, and should make the R1T truck even more appealing to adventure junkies. The 2022 Rivian R1T Truck features four motors with a power output of 800 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque, which it sends to all four wheels. This massive power allows it to haul up to 11,000 pounds, carry 1,764 pounds, and it has a maximum range of 314 miles. With a hefty curb weight of 7,000 lbs, the R1T can still get to 60 mph in only three seconds, and will top out at 110 mph.
