Out of the massive crop of new EV companies, Rivian is one of just a few startup automakers with an actual product that people can buy. Its first EV, the R1T pickup, recently hit the streets as an adventure-ready vehicle with interesting capabilities and accessories. Customers and hopefuls have long speculated over a winch option for the truck, and a recent Rivian app update appears to have finally confirmed the rumors.

The winch has been spotted in various press shots and during events where the R1T has been on display, but this appears to be the first time it's shown up in an official app or website. Rivian's clever design capability extends beyond its vehicles to the components it offers, as the winch features an app-based wireless Bluetooth controller for easier operation.

Using the Rivian app, owners can also lock and unlock the doors and trunk, check charging state, and track the truck in the event of a theft. The winch installation will be available via a kit later this year, so Rivian owners won't have to wait for factory installation.

Though visible in the Rivian app, the winch hasn't made its way into the automaker's online configurator. Buyers are still presented with the small but exciting group of add-ons, including a $6,750 camp kitchen, a $3,100 rooftop tent system, and a $2,000 underbody shield system. There's no word on what the winch could cost, but a solid Warn winch system can easily cost $2,000 or more, so Rivian's system is likely to be pricey.

The Rivian R1T has been in the wild for a few months now and took the title of the first electric pickup out of the gates when it landed. The truck is available with more than 800 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque and can sprint from 0-60 mph in around 3 seconds.

Additionally, an available "Max Pack" battery brings range to over 400 miles, but it's worth noting that the extended battery adds a whopping $16,000 to the R1T's already steep price tag.

Rivian's next vehicle, the R1S SUV, is due out soon, but the company faces an uphill battle filling orders. Due to supply chain issues and other constraints, its 2022 production capacity tops out at 25,000 units. That's a far cry from the more than 80,000 orders Rivian has on its books for the R1T and R1S. There's also Amazon's massive delivery van order to contend with, which will soak up most of the automaker's existing capacity.
