With the first deliveries starting this summer, Rivian has confirmed some new important details about the electric R1T pickup truck. We know the R1T can take a lot of punishment off-road thanks to its all-wheel-drive system and independent air suspension. We also know the R1T has some very impressive specifications, with a range of over 400 miles, a quad electric motor system generating 750 horsepower, and a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. Optional accessories will also let you turn the R1T into the ultimate adventure truck. But how practical is the R1T's frunk and bed?

According to Rivian, the R1T's front trunk has a volume of 11 cubic feet, with enough room to fit a half-dozen full grocery bags or two full-sized coolers. It also opens and closes automatically with the app, fob, in-vehicle controls, or an exterior button under the lightbar.

A cargo net helps store loose items, and there's also a 12-volt outlet. An additional compartment accessed using a removable platform on the floor provides additional storage.

Thanks to its skateboard platform, the R1T also features a unique "gear tunnel" behind the cab. Measuring 65 inches long, this handy storage compartment can be used like a mudroom to store snowboards and beach blankets to keep the cabin free of dirt. It also features LED lighting, a 12V outlet, a 110V outlet, and can be opened and closed through Rivian's app, in-vehicle controls, or a button on the bed rail. Each door panel also has a hidden compartment to store small items such as a leash or tennis balls when heading to a dog park.

As for the bed, a tailgate hinge system allows the bed length to extend to 83.6 inches with the tailgate down. With the tailgate up, the R1T's bed measures 54 inches long with a 45.5-inch overhang past the rear tires. The space between the wheel arches measures over 50 inches and a load-bearing panel eliminates the gap when the tailgate is down, creating a continuously flat surface to carry larger cargo.

When the tailgate opens, two LED lights turn on automatically, with one on each side. To secure heavy cargo, forged steel tie-downs are placed in each corner and there an additional four tie-downs above the bed rails. Two lockable tonneau cover options provide an extra 29 cubic feet of storage space. Featuring a maximum pressure of 150 psi, an in-bed air compressor can be used for the tires or inflatable items.
