Rivian may be one of the newest players in the EV game, but it has been making waves for all the right reasons. So far, we've learned that the company offers a better battery warranty than Tesla and is more generous with returns too. Not only is the R1T one of the best-looking electric trucks out there but it is also offered with a load of cool accessories that will make adventures in the truck more fun. And now we've learned that the truck will get another awesome option that no Tesla besides the Roadster will: a removable roof. Jeep Wrangler, your USP is no longer unique.

The news was discovered on the build configurator for the R1T on Rivian's site, where the company has said that "an open-air removable roof option will be offered in mid-2022."

Now, the R1T is no small truck, and we suspect that the roof is unlikely to be very light unless constructed predominantly of a light material like vinyl or plastic. Nevertheless, considering the size of the vehicle, we expect that removing or replacing the roof will be a two-person job unless it is split in two pieces. A split roof would also make sense in that it would allow for a stabilizing cross member to keep the body stiff.

Unfortunately, besides knowing that the option will be offered from the middle of next year, we don't have any other confirmed information, so at this point, we can only speculate about the removable roof. Still, we doubt that it will be a particularly expensive option and will certainly increase the allure of the vehicle for those who like an adventure.

Combining the quiet of an electric platform with a truck that has no roof will make this a great vehicle for those who like exploring national parks and otherwise enjoying the outdoors. It's just another way that Rivian is outdoing Tesla, but will the truck be as good as claimed when we finally get to drive it? Only time will tell.
