A big part of the joy in collecting cars is in the acquisition: finding the car you want, making an offer or placing a bid, maybe putting in some restoration work and giving it a place of pride in your garage. So every once in a while, a major collector will opt to downsize his collection, making room in the garage for something new and giving others the chance to give his cars a new home. That's likely why noted collector Don Davis is "downsizing" his collection, consigning 64 classic cars to be sold by RM Auctions on a single day in Texas.

Among the cars up for auction from the Don Davis Collection are numerous Porsches (including a 959, a '73 Carrera RS Touring and a 356 Speedster) and Corvettes (including a '66 427 Big Tank, a '63 Split-Window Stingray and a '53 Roadster). Other highlights include the Chrysler Newport that paced the 1941 Indy 500, a rare Ferrari Daytona Spider (along with a matching coupe) and a Mercedes Gullwing (with a pair of Roadsters as well). The majority of the cars featured are in pristine condition with low mileage. The auction will take place on April 27 in Fort Worth, Texas. (Photos by Darin Schnabel, courtesy of RM Auctions.)
