Huracan STO

Apparently, British rockers Muse have a bit of a thing for fast supercars. Rock and fast cars do tend to go together, and Matt Bellamy, the band's guitarist, and Dom Howard, Muse's drummer, are no exception. In 2019, the two had a quick blast around the track in a Lambo Huracan Performante, and the band has even featured a Lamborghini Countach in one of its music videos.

This doesn't look like some weak celebrity promo, either. No one who isn't a real car freak is going to stop in the middle of their interview to listen to another Lamborghini Huracan peel out of the pits. These guys are out there to go really fast. It's hard to tell if the opening shot of Lambo's YouTube video is one of the band members sliding that Huracan STO, but we'd believe it.

According to Howard and Bellamy, which sounds more like a law firm than a UK rock band, there are actually a lot of similarities between performing live and track driving. "When you're on stage and you're performing in front of people, you've a lot of adrenaline, you've a lot of energy, but you also have to concentrate on what you're doing, so you don't make mistakes," says Howard.

"And I find driving on track fast like this is almost similar, because you have a lot of adrenaline, it's exciting, it's thrilling, but you have to really be calm and concentrate and be in a zone. I like the parallels of performing on stage and driving a car," Howard continued.

This is the point at which Bellamy interrupts the interview to watch a pair of STOs pull out of the pits, stopping to listen to the screaming V10 engines and watch the cars leave, which you can see through the reflection in his glasses. The pair also talked a little about their musical influences, like Daft Punk and Jimi Hendrix, saying they'd listen to both on a Lambo road trip.

Bellamy went on to say that "it's a lot like being on stage [driving on track], because you have lots of lights, it's really loud, and you have to stay calm and control your nerves." Commonalities between playing sold-out rock shows and driving supercars aside, their STO drive looks seriously quick on track.

As it should, seeing as the hard-edged 640 hp Huracan is effectively a detuned Super Trofeo car. Anyway, go listen to some Muse while hitting the road, the band makes pretty good music to drive to.
