The action has kicked off at Goodwood for the 2012 Festival of Speed, with automakers left and right bringing their finest to sprint up the legendary hillside track. But running at the front of the pack is Rolls-Royce whose extended-wheelbase Ghost limousine officially serves as pace car for the event this year. The Ghost EWB takes its motivation in the form of a 563hp twin-turbocharged V12 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

It can sprint from 0-60mph in just under five seconds and can reach a top speed of 155mph. But its super-luxurious orientation is what makes the Rolls a unique choice over the usual sportscars that act as pace cars at less prestigious, less traditional, less...British motorsport events. The 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place in West Sussex and runs from June 28th until July 1st.
