Video games and cars go hand in hand. Legendary titles such as Grand Turismo and Need for Speed have been dominating the gaming world for ages, and still enjoy a massive following to this day. But what if you're a more discerning car person who doesn't enjoy the idea of hitting NOS buttons for extra boost? Well Rolls-Royce, who recently announced a new special edition range of cars based on the Wraith called the Kryptos Collection, has launched its own brand of automotive game which won't exactly get the heart racing but will have you flexing your most important muscle for hours.

"The name Kryptos is derived from Ancient Greek, referring to something unseen, hidden and coded, mythical even. Ciphers can be traced through millennia, capturing the imagination of some of the world's most brilliant minds," said Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer, Katrin Lehmann. That should give you a good idea of what this game is all about.

The game, which was launched on 23 July consists of four cryptic levels, each being more challenging than the last. The first person to complete all four levels will win a personalized Rolls-Royce treadplate. So where did the idea for the game come from? The Wraith Kryptos Collection, which was launched on July 7, is imbued with cryptic messaging and code, physically embedded within the fabric of the motor car, and only owners will be able to solve the clues. For those who won't be able to get their hands on one of these exclusive cars (that would be the majority of the world), Rolls-Royce has made the online game available.

The game starts with players having to guide an orb through a maze by pitching and tilting their mobile phones. This is more difficult than it sounds. Trust us. Next up you'll have to answer a set of questions to reveal sharp you really are at solving cryptography conundrums.

The third level of the game is obviously more challenging and tests the observation skills of the player. The final phase of the game consists of cryptographic ciphers which were specially designed to flummox even the sharpest of minds. Rolls-Royce says that "This level is the reserve of the most agile and determined minds alone."

While brands such as Mercedes-Benz will allow you to take your gaming experiences inside the car, Rolls-Royce, ever the gentleman, has eased into the world of gaming in a classy manner that is totally on-brand. Welcome to the 21st century Rolls.
