Shelby American may be bringing back its hugely popular Rent-A-Racer program, according to AutoWeek. The program began four years after the company's inception in 1966 when Shelby hooked up with Hertz to build 1,000 performance Mustangs available for rent. In 2006 the program returned with the GT-H and it was also very popular. The cars went on sale soon after the program ended.
The racer in consideration for this program is the Mustang GT, upgraded for 'enthusiast-oriented' consumers. The Mustang GT derives its power from a 5.0-liter V8 giving it a solid 412hp. Shelby has been known to juice up their cars both on the exterior and interior for these types of programs. The program may be timed to coincide with Shelby's 50th anniversary and could start as early as next spring.
