With German media reporting that BMW could roll out a four-door sportscar named the i9 as early as 2016, it's time for the renderings to begin. According to reports, the company will start to act on its trademarking of the full i1 to i9 range of nameplates with an upcoming sports sedan which could be a larger 4-door version of the i8. It's expected to employ a similar hybrid approach, while improving technology to offer better performance and lower emissions.

However, while this render looks good, we expect the production i9 to add more than just a couple of rear doors to the already-sold out i8. As a sedan or four-door coupe, it will add larger dimensions and more interior space, setting it apart from the i5, which has yet to be detailed.
