Why? Because EVs have become trendy.
Last week Saleen announced that it was at work developing a new supercar, set to be called the S8. That's the good news. Only now we're hearing the company that tunes those totally sweet Mustangs and is the creator of the S7 wants to also build an electric car. For the life of us, we're not entirely sure why. Steve Saleen himself stated that he and his team "recognize that electric cars are a trend, not a fad and expect this vehicle category to increase as an automotive option for consumers."
We intend to enter this market with an offering that is truly innovative and offers the styling and craftsmanship associated with the Saleen Automotive brand." Fair enough, but what we're not being told is what kind of EV will this thing be. Could it be an entirely new car or take an existing model and turn it into an EV? Heck, an electrified Mustang shouldn't even be ruled out, although that does sound unlikely. Still, we're very interested in seeing what Saleen and crew will come up with. No target launch date has been announced.
