Car2Go has announced they are expanding to yet another city. In addition to outlets throughout and Europe and parts of North America, the electric city car supplier will now open up in San Diego, California.
In a recent press release, Daimler has announced that their Car2Go car sharing program will expand to San Diego, California this fall. Car2Go already has branches in Austin, Texas and Vancouver, British Columbia along with several European branches including one in Amsterdam. San Diego will be receiving the Fortwo ED, which has a high-efficiency lithium-ion battery that can drive for about 84 miles before needing to be recharged. However, recharging takes about eight hours.
The company initially started off in Ulm, Germany and began to expand after its initial success there. Car sharing makes commutating to work very cost efficient and Car2Go vehicles can be booked 24 hours in advance. Charges are based on minutes used and include fuel, insurance, parking and maintenance. There is also a one-time registration fee of $35. Currently, there are more than 40,000 members and 1,000 Smart ForTwo vehicles with low-emission gasoline engines.
