But not all is lost.
We previously reported that Maserati is planning on having two high performance coupes in its future lineup, the production-spec Alfieri and the next generation GranTurismo. As you’ve likely guessed, the Alfieri will be a direct competitor to the likes of the Jaguar F-Type while the redesigned GranTurismo will focus more on grand touring. However, there’s only room for one convertible here, and that honor will be given to the Alfieri. Car Magazine has confirmed that the GranCabrio will be discontinued for good at the end of its product cycle.
Speaking to Maserati chief Harald Wester, CM also confirmed the Alfieri Cabrio will come one year after the coupe, so 2016 and 2017 respectively. The next-gen GranTurismo will arrive in 2018. What’s more, the new GranTurismo will once again be rear-wheel-drive only despite sharing the same platform as the AWD Ghibli and Quattroporte. More than likely, the Maserati V8 will be called up again for duty, but don’t be surprised to see an entry-level twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that can produce up to 520 hp on offer too.
