The new range topper is going to be more attainable. As long as you have a spare $120,000 that is.
Codenamed the C190, AMG's future halo car and spiritual replacement of the SLS AMG has been spied and from these latest images we like what we're seeing. More compact, elegant, modern and most importantly, affordable, the Mercedes AMG GT (or SLC) has been heralded as a 911 fighter and the affordable sports car Affalterbach hopes will increase its volume. Sharing little with the SLS, a new aluminum spaceframe has been developed for the AMG GT in order to get weight below 3,300 pounds, and will come with an AMG-built V8 mounted aft of the front wheels.
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is still under development, with power to surpass 500 horsepower that'll all be routed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed Speedshift dual clutch mounted in the rear. The AMG GT is expected to debut in the second half of 2014, with US sales to start in 2015. A roadster is expected one year after and a 600-hp Black Series beyond that.
