Just a few days after the new Discovery facelift debuted, Land Rover has lifted the wraps off the 2021 Discovery Sport. Since the off-roader was redesigned for the 2020 model year, we weren't expecting the 2021 version to get any major updates - but we were wrong. For the 2021 model year, Land Rover has updated the best-selling Discovery Sport with an abundance of new tech.

As standard, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is equipped with the automaker's all-new Pivi Pro infotainment system underpinned by a new Electrical Vehicle Architecture introduced on the new Land Rover Defender, which offers significantly faster load times and support for over-the-air software updates. "Infotainment in the Land Rover Discovery Sport has been transformed with the introduction of our new electric vehicle architecture and Pivi," said Alex Heslop, Director of Electrical Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover.

"The new hardware and software means the New Discovery Sport is more digitally connected than ever. Our customers can now benefit from a system as responsive and easy to use as a smartphone, which actually improves over time, thanks to Software-Over-The-Air updates."

Installing over-the-air software updates adds the latest maps, apps, and features. The 2021 Discovery Sport automatically searches for software updates and sends the driver a notification on the touchscreen whenever a new download is available. Software updates can also be scheduled up to 14 days in advance. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is now standard across the Discovery Sport range, while an available online pack with data plan enables a dedicated Spotify app for the first time, and Bluetooth connectivity for two phones. An optional wireless charging pad for smartphones is also available.

To complement the Cabin Air Ionization technology introduced for 2020, Land Rover is offering a new Advanced Cabin Air Filtration system for the 2021 model. When activated using the Purify button on the touchscreen, the system can help remove particles, bacteria, and pollen below 2.5 microns to improve the air quality. An active carbon filter can also remove unpleasant odors.

Other tech updates include new standard driver assists such as traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor, and a 3D surround camera. Like the 2020 model, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder rated at 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels.

Pricing starts at $41,900 for the entry-level S P250 and $45,300 for the SE P250. Moving up the range, the R-Dynamic S P250 starts at $43,600, while the R-Dynamic SE P250 costs $46,950. All prices exclude the $1,050 destination charge.
