Just when we were starting to have faith...

The rise of sporty SUVs from German automakers has caused waves of anger and fear to ripple through the hearts of automotive enthusiasts around the world. Everyone from supercar companies to legendary sports car makers are trying to cash in on the world's love for sport utility vehicles. Now you can add another automaker to the pile. According to Automotive News Europe, Alfa Romeo has recently finished preparing work on its first SUV and is on track to launch the vehicle next year.

CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Sergio Marchionne, stated that the sports car brand's second model after the Alfa Romeo Giulia will go into production in 2016. Sources say that the code named Project 949 will be based on the Giulia sedan and will be a midsize SUV to rival the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. "All the preparation work" in connection with the SUV is done," stated Marchionne. "Alfa's plan is progressing as we told you it will go." We're huge fans of Alfa Romeo and love the new 4C. But we can't help but wonder if the company's doing the right thing by going into the SUV segment. While it may not bring more buyers to Alfa we're happy to see the automaker expand its lineup nonetheless.
