Seat Releases New Ibiza Cupra

Volkswagen's Spanish brand updates its 178hp hot hatch in line with the base Ibiza's facelift.

Looking for a GTI with a more Latin flavor? That'd be the Cupra, then. At least it would be if you live in a market outside North America where Seats are sold. The Spanish automaker's top-of-the-line performance badge is applied to the Golf-sized Leon and to the Polo-sized Ibiza, the latter of which has just been released in revised form. Following the facelift recently applied to the rest of the Ibiza range, Seat has now revealed the new Ibiza Cupra.

The same 1.4-liter TSI turbo four carries over with 178 horsepower and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for a 6.9-second 0-60 time. What's new is the crisper design with a crease up the hood and reshaped headlights from the facelifted base Ibiza, plus LED daytime running lights, more aggressive bumpers and a central hexagonal exhaust to complement the hexagonal air intakes. Inside the Cupra gets Seat's new portable audio system with sat-nav and Bluetooth streaming, along with a sportier steering wheel and seats.
