The war of the small organic and independent supercar makers versus the large establishment is about to get a whole lot more interesting. A few years ago, the Porsche 918 Spyder smashed the Nurburgring lap record with a blistering time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds. However, Koenigsegg thinks it can do better. It had been attempting to set a new lap record before the Ring got its speed limits, but now those are gone, the Swedish team is out running practice laps again to get ready for a record run.

The complexity of the track means that a driver that knows the Ring well must practice with the car before a record can be set. Watch below as the driver gives it a shot.
