Seriously?! Has BMW Just Surrendered To The Mercedes S65 AMG?

Industry News / 50 Comments

It's like waving a white flag.

Just take a moment and think about all of the ridiculously awesome cars BMW builds. No, the 2-Series Active Tourer isn't one of them. Never will be. But anyway, think of everything else from the standard lineup, to the upgraded M Performance cars, to the actual M cars themselves, as well as the entire SAV lineup, many of which have also been given the M treatment. Damn impressive, ain't it all? But what we've really, really been hoping for isn't coming true: an M7.

We previously reported that an M7 was a distinct possibility with the latest generation 7 Series, only now BMW M boss Franciscus van Meel told Dutch publication Autovisie that an M7 is officially off the table. Reason being is that he doesn't believe there'd be enough demand for a high-performance large sedan because the 7 Series focuses entirely on comfort and luxury. Well, apparently the V12-powered Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG will remain without a direct competitor.
