Can they improve upon 650hp and a 202 mph top speed?
Should we be surprised in the least? Nah, don't be because anything less and Ford will never hear the end of Mustang fans' eternal disappointment and rage. According to a report coming from Mustangs Daily, the next-generation Mustang, due to arrive in either 2014 or 2015, will also include the Shelby GT500 model. Shelby American president John Luft specifically stated that "the contract (with Ford) has been extended, and we have a long-term vision for our relationship.
It has been extended through 2015 and beyond." The current GT500 is powered by a 5.8-liter V8 with an incredible 650hp and a top speed of 202 mph. Obviously, no specific details have been given yet regarding the next generation model's potential specs, but Shelby stated they still plan to continue doing small production runs of the GT350, GTS and GT500 Super Snake. However, Luft said that Ford will handle the bulk of production as "we could never produce the volume that they produce. We've sized our business to build 500-600 cars per year. To do another production run like the GT... (with 6,000 - 7,000 units) is not in our game plan." Photos displayed are of the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
