There could be a new EV maker in town.
Self-made British billionaire Richard Branson has admitted that his Virgin brand, which currently churns out trains, planes, and spaceships, could soon be entering the electric car market. Speaking with Bloomberg in Miami, where his Virgin Racing team was taking part in the all-electric Formula E, Branson admitted: "We have teams of people working on electric cars. So you never know-you may find Virgin competing with the Tesla in the car business as we do in the space business. We will see what happens."
Branson also revealed he thinks "Tesla is as sexy as any other car on the road today." So while there are other EV makers in the world, it's obvious that Branson has Elon Musk's company firmly in his crosshairs. In the meantime, his Virgin Galactic operation will work towards offering the first sub-orbital space flight, and he will soon introduce a line of cruise ships.
