The Freightliner Inspiration Truck is set to be America's first road-legal self-driving big rig. A big rig that drives itself. Let that sink in for a second. In a press event held by Daimler and the state of Nevada, the former's chairman and the latter's governor met to debut the truck and bolt on its official autonomous vehicle license plate. Details are slowly coming out of the event about the truck. What we do know is that a human will be in the cab of the truck. Although they won't be driving per se.

Instead, the trucker will monitor the systems and intervene if there is an error. The truck can read road signs and stop lights, so you shouldn't have to worry about it t-boning you at a four-way stop. We don't usually cover big rigs but this is big news as it shows just how far self-driving tech has penetrated. If you thought the roads of the future wouldn't be filled with autonomous cars you need only take a drive on Nevada's highways in a few years to see how wrong you are.
